Hi. I'm Loy. In December, 1991, it dawned on me that I had the wherewithal (room and finance) to build the model railroad I wished I could build as a teenager. So, I started.

I knew I didn't want to flip a lot of toggle switches to have multiple train control, but I didn't know exactly how I would do it. I contacted many model railroad control companies (command and automatic block control). I even considered designing and building my own automatic block control system.

While my search to find an acceptable system continued, Model Railroader published an article about the NMRA's Digital Command Control (DCC) standards in their October, 1993 issue (page 104). Being from the computer industry, I instantly understood the benefits of digital, and of industry standards. That settled it for me. I would have nothing less than a DCC-compatible system for my railroad.

So, I started researching all available DCC systems at the time. Some were too expensive such as Marklin. Digitrax Challenger (now discontinued) was the least expensive, and had something that not even the Marklin had - optional automatic reverse section control. But, I couldn't live with the Challenger's limitation of only 15 DCC locos on the layout, and selecting those locos by group and color (Digitrax's current systems weren't available yet). So, in January, 1994, I purchased a Lenz DIGITAL Plus system.

Literally all of the command control companies I contacted, except Digitrax, recommended controlling reverse sections with a DPDT toggle switch. Excuse me! If I'm going to spend upwards to a thousand dollars for a command control system, I certainly don't want to have to use toggle switches for the reverse sections. One of the main reasons for purchasing command control in the first place is to get away from toggle switches to run the train.

Since Lenz didn't have a way to control reverse sections automatically, I decided to develop one. Actually, I developed six or seven. After developing the first one, I thought of a better way. After the second one, I discovered yet a better way. And so on, until I finally had what I though was the absolute best unit. The result is the Automatic Reverse Section Controller (ARSC) that we sell today.

After building six of them, and installing them on my layout, running trains was much more pleasurable - so much more fun that I decided others might want some. So, I decided to start a new company and sell them. Loy's Toys was started on July 1, 1994.

Over the next few months, I acquired several other items to sell - mostly unusual items that you wouldn't usually find in your local train store. One thing led to another, and I started installing decoders for other people. In September, 1994 I contacted Digitrax to purchase decoders as a dealer. They sent my first shipment with a flyer for their then new Big Boy system. One thing that caught my attention was that it didn't have an MU limitation. Lenz was limited to two locos, and that was always a bother.

So I ordered a Big Boy system, which arrived in the first week in October. I just happened to get a new Bachmann Plus F7 at the same time, so I installed the decoder that came with the starter set in it. After programming it for the 128 speed-step mode, I dialed in the address, and turned the knob. I was amazed at how slow and smooth it started out, and how smooth and responsive it accelerated as I continued to turn the throttle knob. It was like I stepped out of a Volkswagen, and into a Cadillac.

I shut the system off, went to the phone, called Digitrax, and told them I wanted to be a dealer for the system, not just decoders.

By January, 1995, I had decided that my niche was in DCC. I eliminated all items from my catalog that didn't relate to DCC in one way or another, and added Lenz and Wangrow. I also started searching for other DCC related items, such as proper power supplies, etc.

Today, we no longer sell Lenz or Wangrow. In my opinion, Digitrax doesn't just provide more bang for the buck, it is also technologically light-years ahead of the rest, and will stay there. If you study the rest of the information provided here, we're sure you will come to the same conclusion.

Today, we are DCC specialists - DCC sales and service is our main business. The only items we sell that are not directly related to DCC are loosely related to DCC. For example, we carry the full line of Peco N- and HO-scale track because we think Peco has the best DCC-friendly turnouts for the money.

Since we live and breathe DCC, we naturally support what we sell better than anyone else. And besides handling the entire Digitrax line, we have the largest selection of DCC accessories anywhere - to the point of developing and manufacturing some of it ourselves. If it's related to DCC, and we think it's worth having, we either have it, or will have it when its made available to us. Something to remember here is that we don't carry just anything anymore. We only carry the products that we believe in - mostly products we first purchased for our own use, then decided to carry for sale. In our opinion, these products are either the best there is for what they do, or they are the best value for the money.

Because we use most of the products ourselves, we can provide outstanding support for them. Although we may not be down the street from you, we have the answers. And nobody, no matter how close they are to you, can support you properly if they don't have the answers you need. And since there is no DCC dealer with more experience in using and supporting the products we carry, we naturally provide the best support.

The bottom line is this: we are a full-time business that specializes in DCC - not an evening past time. Since we spend full time with DCC, you get a low price, and exceptional service and support - with answers for your questions, solutions for your problems, and help when you need it.

In addition to all this, we also offer the following:

  • Low competitive prices - the best bang for the buck.
  • Our exclusive Hints and Tips booklet with every Empire Builder and Chief
  • Any quantity of decoders at the 5-piece price when purchased with any
    Starter Set
  • Loy's Toys DCC Encyclopedia to help you over the learning curve of most
topics - a free issue of your choice with purchase of a starter set or
    minimum order.
  • Loy's Toys Newsletter with each order to keep you apprised of new
    innovations
  • Laminated reference charts for many products

In short, we've got the DCC product, service and support you want, and we want your business - a perfect match.

Well, that's it. We look forward to serving you soon.
